Snow going to Manokotak!

The next weekend we had a beautiful opportunity to ride over to Manokotak. It was COLD but we had great snow base. The sky was clear so we headed out. Four of us went. Our pastor Rob and Dana, his wife, Scott and myself. No one had made the trip before so it was a good adventure. We took about 2 hours to get there and about 1 to get back! We crossed the Snake River twice each way, tipped over once, saw unbelievable scenery, froze our toes and hands, helped another rider get his machine going, explored the village and made it home just as it got dark. A wonderful day!

Manokotak

I traveled to this small village with another dental assistant and one dentist. It is only about a 15 minute flight from Dillingham. We were there for five days.
We set up our dental room in the school and saw mostly children during the day. In the evenings we saw adults. It was very fun but tiring. We slept in the teacher housing next to the school.

December 2010

Christmas in Dillingham was very simple! But we enjoyed good company, good food, games, church services and quiet times. I have been baking all our bread and I made these "Christmas Tree" rolls for the 25th. I also made my first "cuspuk." It is a traditional native dress/shirt. Scott was kept busy shoveling snow!
